ABOUT US

The Story of TriWea

HOUSE OF TRIWEA

Triwea is a piece of cloth, is the creation of the tribal communities of Meghalaya like the Rabhas, Garos, Khasi, Hajongs and Koch. The communities maintain traditional knowledge of weaving with natural fibres and natural dyes and have an understanding of living and working in harmony with nature.

Triwea flourishes in a thriving ecosystem of interconnected local weaving communities that work in the Collective Production Units (CPUs) close to their homes. They commute on foot and remain rooted in their culture and habitat.

TriWea celebrates the grace of slow fashion, sustainability, and the local artistry to contribute to a meaningful and ethical approach to fashion to enrich the market with a diverse range of products.

The weavers produce elegant stoles, cozy mufflers, throws, enchanting yardage and local styles to meet the demands of the local and global markets and provide sustainable livelihood options to them.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Our Weaving Process

The NGO Behind TriWea

Centre for the Study of Caste and Capitalism (CSCC)

CSCC is a section 8, Not-for-Profit Body incorporated under the Companies Act on 13th August 2015. It believes that entrepreneurship based on the plentiful skills that the underprivileged, esp. the SC/ST possess, is an important means of mainstreaming them.

CSCC attempts to provide an ecosystem essential for it. It undertakes micro-entrepreneurship projects focusing on skilling/up-skilling, market connect, self-employment, and enterprise development and a local area development approach to provide sustainable solutions. CSCC works in the sub-Himalayan region to revive disappearing textile arts and organic natural fibers that sustain Tribal heritage in the Northeast for sustainable fashion.

CSCC believes that supporting a craft is supporting a source of livelihood i.e. sustainable, environment friendly and energy saving.
